Driver charged with motor vehicle homicide

WORCESTER - A city man injured in an October accident that killed his friend has been arraigned on motor vehicle homicide charges.

John C. Patterson, 24, of 15 Irving St. was charged this week with motor vehicle homicide as a result of driving under the influence of alcohol or .08 percent; driving negligently; and speeding. He was arraigned in Central District Court, and his case was continued to March 12.

The charges stem from an Oct. 3 car accident on Pleasant Street at the bottom of Airport Drive. Police said at the time that Mr. Patterson was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima on Pleasant Street around 9:30 p.m. when the car went out of control, crossed Pleasant Street and hit a Buick Regal that was stopped at a stop sign at the bottom of Airport Drive. Daniel J. Rossetti, 26, a passenger in the car and a friend of Mr. Patterson's, was killed in the crash. Mr. Patterson was critically injured; the driver of the Buick was not seriously hurt.
